We are delighted to invite you and your organization to the 2019 Annual Gala of South Asian Youth Action (SAYA), recognizing our 23 years of work with New York City youth. The Gala will be held on the evening of Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Pier Sixty in Chelsea Piers.

During this special evening, SAYA will honor Dr. Vasu Varadhan, Dr. Srinivasa Varadhan, and The Honorable Gurbir Grewal. Dr. Vasu Varadhan is an Associate Faculty member at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. She has taught a wide range of interdisciplinary seminars on media theory, identity in a multi-cultural world, ancient Indian literature and South Asian literature with a special focus on emerging Indian writers in the diaspora. Dr. Srinivasa Varadhan is a Professor of Mathematics at New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. His work focuses on probability theory and he is the recipient of many awards including the Abel Prize, the U.S. National Medal of Science and the Padma Bhushan from the Government of India. The Honorable Gurbir Grewal has focused his attention on protecting the interests of New Jersey residents by expanding affirmative litigation, strengthening police-community relations, reducing violent crime and fighting the opioid epidemic. Dr. Vasu Varadhan, Dr. Srinivasa Varadhan and The Honorable Gurbir Grewal are leading voices in their fields and exemplify excellence for SAYA youth and the South Asian community.
