SAT preparation
Course SAYA!
offers SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) preparation courses in partnership with
professional testing companies including Revolution Prep, New York Cares Kaplan
and Advantage Testing at our Elmhurst-based center. Classes are offered during
the summer, fall and spring semesters. In 2009-2010, participants achieved average
score improvements of over 200 points. SAT scores are a major factor in determining
college entrance and scholarship packages.
SHSAT Preparation Course
SAYA! offers Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) to prepare
8th and 9th grade students for the SHSAT exam. The SHSAT is the test used to determine
admission to the following eight Specialized High Schools: Bronx High School of
Science; Brooklyn Technical High School; The Brooklyn Latin School; High School
for Mathematics, Science and Engineering at City College; High School of American
Studies at Lehman College; Queens High School for the Sciences at York College;
Staten Island Technical High School and Stuyvesant High School.
One-on-One
Tutoring Youth are paired up with volunteer tutors for weekly tutoring
in any subject where they need extra support. Each tutoring session lasts for
at least two hours. Tutoring is open to students from Grade 7 - 12.
College
Access Program Chalo
College!, SAYA!'s college access program, guides participants on the college admissions
process, from putting together their college applications, writing personal statements,
applying for financial aid, and choosing a college that best fits their individual
needs. Through group workshops and individual counseling sessions, youth meet
with SAYA!'s Academic Coordinator to guide them through all aspects of the college
application process to increase their likelihood and competitiveness towards attending
a college of their choice. Career
Counseling The
"Hired!" Employment Readiness Program provides youth with an intensive
experience on all aspects of the job search process. Youth attend workshops on
career options, resume writing, and job interviewing during the spring semester.
Upon completion, they are guaranteed placements at full-time internships in the
summer. As part of this program, SAYA! organizes a Career Fair each April where
youth meet with leaders in various fields ranging from entertainment, law, business,
government, and social service. Registration If
you are interested in registering for any of the academic programs, please email
