South Asian Youth Action (SAYA!) was founded in
1996 to develop the leadership skills and talents
of South Asian youth in New York City. Ever since
then we've been offering young people a safe space
to be themselves.
Over
400 young people from Afghanistan, Bangladesh
, Guyana, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and
Trinidad participate in our programs. Some of
these teenagers have just recently arrived in
the U.S., others were born here. No matter what,
they share a bond with each other as South Asian
youth. Many young people are faced with cultural
identity and problems common to urban American
teenagers. Other youth are in need of supportive
counseling, introduction to the American school
system and society, and general social support
SAYA!
is also involved with advocacy efforts, to raise
public awareness and promote greater peace and
unity among young people of diverse racial, ethnic
and religious backgrounds. Welcome to the SAYA!
team!
