We are pleased to announce the release of our first policy report "New York City South Asian Youth: critical mass, urgent needs." Using original analysis of Census data, the report confirms that more than one-quarter of NYC South Asian youth live below the federal poverty level.
This report provides a comprehensive overview of the issues facing New York City's rapidly growing South Asian youth population, which now numbers over 100,000. Despite increasing numbers, South Asian youth, parents and community members continue to report that New York City policymakers and civic leaders misunderstand the challenges facing the educational and economic success of South Asian youth. Our report attempts to educate decision makers and stakeholders about this population's demographics and needs, and draws upon expert consultations and SAYA!'s 17 year history to provide a set of policy recommendations that can be implemented today.
